Advanced Astroparticle Physics
This is a master-level course, part of NPAC (Noyaux, particules, astroparticules et cosmologie).
It is composed of three modules:
– compact objects
– multi-messenger astroparticle physics
– signal, instruments, reconstruction, and analysis
This webpage corresponds to the module “Multi-messenger astroparticle physics”. It focuses on the processes that produce, accelerate, and transport high-energy particles across the cosmos. We will begin by studying in detail the fundamental interactions that govern particle dynamics in various astrophysical environments, including the Milky Way and intergalactic space. Building on this foundation, we will examine a few landmark observational examples, particularly those involving multiple high-energy messengers, to understand how these signals can be used to extract information about their sources and the media they traverse.
The course also covers some strategies essential for interpreting observations of various cosmic messengers, emphasising some key techniques for identifying temporal and spatial coincidences among them. This will highlight the critical role of multimessenger networks in delivering ingredients for data interpretation. Finally, we will explore in detail how astroparticles can yield insights into exotic phenomena, including potential connections to dark matter and physics beyond the Standard Model.
